Cold allergy is an unusual reaction of the body to low temperatures, often triggered by cold wind, icy water, or winter weather.
Symptoms of cold allergy appear within 3–5 minutes of exposure and may last from 1–2 hours up to several days:
Redness of the skin, itching, or severe rashes; swelling may occur on the hands, feet, or face.
Irritation of mucous membranes: runny nose, watery eyes, or throat discomfort.
In severe cases, shortness of breath and anaphylactic shock may occur.
Who is more prone to cold allergy?
This condition is more common in people with weakened immune systems, chronic illnesses, or increased sensitivity to cold. It is relatively more frequent in middle-aged women.
What should you do?
1️⃣ Wear gloves, a scarf, and warm clothing to protect your skin.
2️⃣ After being in the cold, warm up and dry your skin immediately indoors.
3️⃣ Apply a protective fatty cream or special anti-cold skincare products one hour before going outside.
4️⃣ If symptoms are severe, consult an allergist.
